Information Of Masjid al-Fatah (مسجد الفتح)
Masjid al-Fatah (مسجد الفتح)
Overview:
Masjid al-Fatah, meaning “Mosque of Victory,” is historically significant as the place where the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) made special supplications during the Battle of Khandaq (the Battle of the Trench). It is here that Allah (ﷻ) granted him glad tidings of victory.
Supplications of the Prophet (ﷺ):
Jabir (رضي الله عنه) narrates that the Prophet (ﷺ) made dua (supplication) for three consecutive days after performing the ritual prayers. Among his supplications were:
“O Allah, Revealer of the Book, swift in taking account, turn the confederates to flight. O Lord, defeat them and cause them to quake.”
“There is no God but Allah, the One who conferred upon His armies the honor of victory, helped His servant, and routed the confederates alone; there is nothing after that.”
Answered Prayers:
On the third day of the siege, between Zohar and Asar prayers, Allah (ﷻ) responded to the Prophet’s supplications. Jibraeel (عليه السلام) was sent to convey the good news of the forthcoming victory. Masjid al-Fatah marks the exact spot where this divine message was delivered. Shortly afterward, a fierce wind scattered the pagan confederates, lifting the siege.
Other Names:
Masjid al-Fatah is also referred to as Masjid Ahzab or Masjid A’la. A masjid existed at this site during the time of the Prophet (ﷺ).
Connection to Masaajid Sab’ah:
Masjid al-Fatah is one of the group known as Masaajid Sab’ah (The Seven Mosques) in Medina. The other six are:
Masjid Salman Farsi
Masjid Ali
Masjid Umar
Masjid Sa’ad
Masjid Abu Bakr
Masjid Qiblatain
Some of these masjids have since been dismantled, but Masjid al-Fatah remains a site of historical and spiritual significance.
