Information Of Masjid Shajarah –
The Mosque of the Tree

Masjid Shajarah – The Mosque of the Tree

Masjid Shajarah (Arabic: مسجد الشجرة), meaning “Mosque of the Tree”, is located in the Ma’la district of Makkah, directly opposite Masjid al-Jinn. This mosque marks the miraculous spot where a tree came to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) in response to his call.

It is important to note that this Masjid Shajarah should not be confused with the mosque in Dhul Hulayfah, which is also sometimes referred to by the same name.

The Miracle of the Tree

Narration of Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه):
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was once at Hajoon when some of the Mushrikeen (disbelievers) rejected his invitation to Islam. Saddened by their response, the Prophet (ﷺ) prayed:

“O Allah! Show me such a sign after which I would have no concern for the rejection of the people.”

  • Allah (ﷻ) instructed him to call a nearby tree.

  • When the Prophet (ﷺ) called it, the tree came to him and greeted him with Salam.

  • The Prophet (ﷺ) then told the tree to return, and it obeyed.

After witnessing this miracle, the Prophet (ﷺ) declared:
“I now have no concern for the people’s rejection.”
(Majma’uz Zawaa’id)

The Two Mosques at the Site

Today, two small mosques stand opposite each other in this location. Some believe that either one of them could be the actual site of this miraculous event. And Allah (ﷻ) knows best.
